Chalk Painted Bathroom Cabinets

Chalk paint became a quick favorite of mine after refinishing a few furniture pieces. I love the creamy looking matte finish and the fact that the prep is so easy. Chalk paint requires no sanding, no special surface prep and will pretty much cover any material you throw at it! The paint is very forgiving and dries super fast. I figured with all of these great qualities, how could it not be great for cabinets? This is a snapshot of the before pictures of my cabinets. Nothing special.

I actually have not seen many bloggers attempt chalk painting cabinets and therefore my curiosity got the best of me and I just had to try it! I used Rustolium Chalk Paint in Charcoal for my cabinet transformation. I love how far the paint goes also. One coat in and you already have really great coverage. I did 2 coats total plus touch ups.

The biggest question with chalk paint is how to seal it. Do we use poly? Wax? Oil? Each topcoat has their own advantages but I opted to try the Rustolium Chalk Paint Topcoat for the first time! This topcoat was designed to be paired with chalk paint and retains it’s creamy matte finish while protecting it. The topcoat goes on with a whitish tint and dries completely clear.

Painting the cabinets was one of the easiest parts of my bathroom reno because I used chalk paint. I didn’t even remove the cabinets from the hinges because with chalk paint you don’t have the big risk of dripping and if you get it on the hinges it buffs right off with a sanding block.

I am so excited with how these turned out and will definitely keep you guys in the loop with the wear and tear over time. What do you think? Would you chalk paint cabinets?
