Baby Boy Nursery Reveal

Putting together a nursery was both super exciting and really challenging! It was exciting to picture each little corner and how the room would grow and change with our little boy. Overall, finding the perfect pieces for the space was really challenging because I tend to like gender neutral decor (and to me that doesn’t mean just finding something grey!), I hate themes (like why does every brand of nursery decor have to carry woodland animals, owls or plaid for boys rooms?) and most of all I really want something that will grow with our child and not require an update every few years. So those were my challenges! For this reason I had to be super creative with how I found all of my decor as well as get crafty and make a few things.

As far as color goes, I still was really inspired by the clean black and white look that I incorporated into the She Shed and decided to carry that into the nursery. I really wanted to try a two toned wall and I couldn’t find one Pinterest picture to support my idea but I went for it and I love the way it turned out.

I wanted to do a layered rug look, mostly because I hate our bland carpet, but also because I love the cozy boho vibes! And, wow, does that layered rug look work well and feel amazing, every time I walk into the room it is plush and cozy on my feet!

Since the black and white was so bold, I wanted to lighten the space up by incorporating neutral light wood tones with the furniture, wicker baskets and some decor. I found our crib on Facebook Marketplace for free and found most of the wicker at Goodwill! I am really happy this baby room gave me the chance to try a basket wall because that has been on my decor bucket list for a while!

As far as accent colors go, I wanted to incorporate mustard yellow and olive green as well as other dusty earth tones that coordinated well with the black and white. This challenge proves especially difficult because everyone that sells baby decor sells pastels, harsh black, white and red toned things and other themed color schemes that just don’t work. I found even in local fabric stores it was hard to find the right fabrics to really compliment the space. Vintage and boutique shops are really my friends.

With the decor I wanted to be a little bit eclectic and, again, not just find generic baby pieces. I feel especially strongly about this when it comes to toys because I think that noisy, electronic toys can really hurt imagination so I opted to do wooden toys. I have been collecting vintage wooden toys for about a year as I anticipated having a baby one day, I love old blocks, pull behind animals and stacking toys. Most of mine are vintage but it is actually really popular right now to be opting for wooden toys so even some of the department stores are carrying them. Amazon has a great selection as well. I also hand selected a few stuffed animals, rattles and other things that fit the theme but the cool part about hand selecting pieces vs decorating with a theme is that the space is constantly evolving and changing!

Of course, if you know my house, you know that books are basically an essential in every room. I have an entire collection of vintage kids books that are currently in my room but I incorporated some of the more young titles into the nursery space because we will be doing lots of reading.

I still haven’t found a nursery rocker that I like so I am holding off on getting on until I find the perfect piece!

Now we are just patiently waiting for his arrival and to get to enjoy the space!
